Lights Out in D-Town

Last evening was an event like most of us have never seen before. About 6:45 pm the power went out all over the City, County, and parts of adjoining counties. Since daylight savings time starts this weekend, sunset already is early.

About 45 minutes into the power outage we called relatives about what the range of the outage really was. We got in the car, drove through downtown, then out liberty road to Bunty Station road where it was pitch black save for the few homeowners with a generator. No pole lights to guide you as you drove through the neighborhoods. Once we got back to Rte. 42 South about 8:00 pm we saw signs of life. Power had already been restored to the industrial park, and one by one neighborhoods came back to life. After we got home my wife turned on DWTS and was set for the night. After seeing all the outages and our conversation about how we all have so little on hand, we came to the conclusion that if there were some state, regional, or national disaster where there was a blackout we’d all be in trouble.

Last nights power outage was a real negative issue for our local retailers, restaurants, and community as a whole. But City Council was able to continue their meeting even in the dark.
